Common Inquiries About Our Firewood Supply

A cord of firewood is equal to 128 cubic feet. For measuring firewood, we use a steel basket that holds an exact half-cord of loose firewood. When the basket is filled, it contains 64 cubic feet, which is the standardized volume used in the firewood industry. To ensure consistency, we load every basket the same way each time.
A stacked measurement taken with a tape measure does not reflect the true volume delivered because the external dimensions of a stack don’t account for the natural variation inside the pile. Factors such as:
• differences in individual piece diameter and length,
• the amount of air space between pieces,
• how tightly or loosely the stack settles, and
• whether the wood is stacked straight, angled, or cross-stacked,
all change the stack's dimensions without changing the actual amount of wood. This is why firewood is officially measured by loose volume, not by stacked dimensions. A tape-measured stack can show different results even when the actual quantity of wood is identical. Because our steel basket provides a consistent, regulated volume measurement, we do not adjust price or quantity based on tape-measure stacking results.
